About
SCOLTA GROUNDS
My lolo (grandfather) used to tell me stories about Calle de la Escolta, once known as Queen of Manila Streets. Derived from the Spanish word escoltar, meaning to escort, it connected the east & west during the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade. It was a major commercial hub under both Spanish & American colonial rule. Scolta Grounds is our personal love letter to our culture. What's yours?

I used to downplay my roots.
Now, I try to honor it in everything I do.
Hi, I'm Louise! I was born in Makati City, Philippines & am currently living in Germany.
Growing up, a part of me felt ashamed of being a FIlipino. Maybe I can blame it on history, or the media, or simply my own naivety. That didn’t change until I turned 30, a few years ago during the pandemic. I couldn’t book a flight to see my family & friends. It made me extremely homesick, & I've never felt that way... ever.
When travel was permitted again, I visited immediately & experienced the Philippines with a more open heart. Here we are now.
Scolta is my way of giving back & reclaiming my identity.
If you’ve ever felt the same, know that you’re not alone. I hope I can help you reconnect with your roots, too.
Together, let’s be proud of our cultures, strive to promote & preserve them, & encourage others to do the same for theirs.
xo, Louise
